Peanut Allergy

One thing everyone should know about peanut allergy is that this type of allergy can be fatal. In fact, amongst all kinds of food allergies, it is peanut allergy that is the most common type that can lead to death. This is precisely why peanut allergy should be taken seriously.
Anybody can have an allergic reaction to peanuts. But studies have shown that children exhibit more propensities to have this kind of allergy. Still, there are cases among children wherein the patient outgrows his or her allergy to peanuts. So, these results still have promise to them.
Still, it is important to avoid any food items that may have peanuts or any peanut particles in it. Food items that have peanut oil should also be avoided. This should be done with utmost vigilance because there is no cure for it at all. All one can do is treat the allergic reaction to peanuts. The most severe of which is anaphylaxis, a medical condition with symptoms that include a sudden decrease in the person’s blood pressure and difficulty in breathing. Anaphylactic shock can cause death in mere minutes if it is not treated right away. In the most severe cases, epinephrine should be administered to the patient immediately, to reverse the effects of anaphylactic shock.
There are other symptoms of peanut allergy as well. These include frequency in urination or Polyuria, inflammation of the brain or Encephalitis, night blindness or Nyctalopia, itching, Urticaria or hives, Angioedema or facial swelling, and even erectile dysfunction. With symptoms as serious as these, there has been much controversy resulting from deaths caused by peanut allergies. These deaths have stirred parents into demanding for more exposure on the serious implications of peanut allergies. These parents are correct in doing so because an allergic reaction can be triggered by your regular peanut butter that can be found at any local supermarket. Even leftover peanut shells have enough peanut oils that can trigger an allergic reaction right away. Avoidance of such food items is not enough because there are even creams, cosmetic products, and ointments that have peanut oil as one of their ingredients or components. Thus, a person who has peanut allergies should make it a habit of checking the components of any food item or product beforehand.
There are drug companies that are trying to develop medicines that can counter these allergies. But these promises are yet to be fulfilled because there are legal issues circling the situation. Thus, the perfect way to avoid having a peanut allergy as of now is to avoid food items and products that have peanut components. It’s always better to be safe than sorry.
