This is especially true for someone who loves pets. If you’re a cat person or a dog person, failing to have a dog or cat of your own because you have allergies can be a major drawback. Is there a way to deal with the situation?
In fact, there is a way to deal with pet allergy. If you’re a pet lover, you can prevent your symptoms by reducing the allergens or the animal dander in your environment. One way to do this is to have separate sleeping area for your pet. Don’t bring your pet inside your room or let him on your bed. It may also be necessary to keep your dog or your cat off your furniture at all times. Brushing your pet’s hair will also help lessen the dander but since it’s impossible for you to do this task, you need to ask someone else to do this for you. Animal dander can also stick on your carpet so make sure that you vacuum it frequently. Better yet, avoid using a carpet altogether. Aside from carpet, other materials also trap dander more easily such as upholstery and curtains. Use wood blinds in place of curtains. Skip the upholstered sofa and go for wood furniture instead. There are also air purifier that you can find in the market that gets rid of animal dander. People with pet allergy can also choose certain breeds of dogs that carry less dander. Smaller dogs with short hair and that doesn’t shed a lot is a better choice because they carry less dander on their hair. Playing just for few moments with your cat or dog several times a day is recommended instead of spending a whole hour with your dog once a day. This way, you can give yourself a break and wash your hands right after touching your pet. Also, remember that allergies can worsen when left untreated. If you have a pet allergy, it is recommended to see an allergy doctor so he can prescribe the appropriate treatment for you.
